Description

Booting my Windows 95 on AMD K6-2 with 333MHz and up always results in the following error message:

Device IOS init failed
Windows protection failure

Solution

On boot-up Windows 95 runs a sequence of processor instructions to determine the speed of the CPU. AMD has implemented a routine that is faster than expected by Windows 95. Thats the reason for the error message. Microsoft and AMD provide a fix for this problem.
